Dan Carter will be out of action for the next 6 months after he limped off the pitch on Saturday in the last minute of Perpignan’s 13-13 draw with Stade Francais. Dan has a partial rupture of his Achilles tendon and will undergo surgery tomorrow (Thursday) in France. This comes as a huge blow to the French side as they have lost arguably the best player in the world after he had only played five games for the team. Not to mention the loss of Carter on the field but they are also going to take a financial knock as Carter had signed a 6 month contract worth 700 000 euro. I am sure they still have to pay him even if he is injured.
Now Carter’s injury also means that he will most likely be full fit come the Tri-Nations this year. The All Blacks are most likely going to look at playing Stephen Donald in the flyhalf position come Tri-Nations but I believe that this is a great opportunity for all other flyhalfs in New Zealand to step up in the Super 14 and stake a claim for the All Black number 10 jersey.

hahaha the boks dont even have a recognized flyhalf, even if butch plays in the trinations, he’s no DC….
stephen brett and hamish gard from the saders will be in line if stephen donald is struggling, all blacks produce class fly halves like michael phelps wins gold medals, with or without the pot…!
boks will take 2nd place if they can actually win at home this year….otherwise it’ll be another wooden spoon thanks for playing!!

Now whomever said we need a great flyhalf to win games. We are world champions, yet we dont have a world class flyhalf. The game we won in the house of pain,we were playing with our 2nd choice scrummy. The all blacks on the other hand, they loose Richie, and they loose their radar…!!Lets see what happens when they loose DC. You see, we dont have world stars, we have teams that get things done.Yes,we made a massive mistake in hiring amatuer coach to coach the boks but now he knows how to play and he has settled on what he wants to do so beware.Testiment to our greatness is the fact that, even when confused like hell, the team still managed to beat the ABs at home….!!

Springbok fans amaze me! Are we ever going to hear the end of that win in Dunedin? If it were so great why cant you do it week in and week out instead of always finishing last in the Tri-Nations? One ‘great’ game does not make the Boks the best team in the world.
As for flyhalfs, I believe that if the Boks stick to Ruan Piennar they could have a decent flyhalf for the next couple of years. It is a pity Ruan will not be able to test himself against Carter but im sure Donald, Brett and co. will give him a good welcome to rugby as a number 10.

thats the only feather in the bok cap against the all blacks…. the all blacks were rebuilding after losing almost 12 seasoned players after the RWC and they still smashed the boks who had almost a full compliment of the players from the RWC….so what makes a great side? one solitary win in dunedin by a ‘seasoned’ team, or a trinations title, bledisloe title, grand slam and team of the year award by a relatively inexperienced team…?!? dont think thats a hard one to grasp….2 flash in the pan performances hardly makes a great team….

good teams are built around good fly halves….backed by a good pack…
’95 – stransky
’99 – larkam
’03 – jonny
’07 – butch – the blight of the bunch
ruan would only make the bench for the all blacks as a reserve scrumhalf….even tho he’s probably the boks best hope for a decent second five….

Great teams are those who win the world cup, not ones who win it once, at home,in amatuer age when TV was in black and white and when it was the first one and other teams didnt even know what to expect…!!
Yes,countless trinations and super
14s,maybe even Bledisloe but when it matters, when it reallt matters…urikupi!?It’s simple fellows, the great team, the current world champions, got an amatuer coach and during that period of confusion, the Wallabies managed a victory in SA soil, but when sense prevailed,we gave them a beating they diserved,a beating their coach took note off and call us greater than all blacks….!!!

haha even your own coach who likens himself to Christ hasnt called the boks great, come on….lets wake up to reality here…..i admit, the all blacks have not performed on the RWC stage, but that makes them no less of a great team, for the past 10yrs or so, their winning record has been over 80%, so please tell me if the boks have anything close to that?
what will the excuses be when the 2011 RWC is sitting in our cabinet along with the rest of the silverware? that it was home advantage and that we played france ni the opening game instead of the playoffs? haha please!

The Blakcs held the number 1 spot form 2003 till 2007 the Boks had it from 2007 till the start of the 2008 Tri Nations……so they had while the Balcks were not playing any internationals. So how great are the Boks or Proteas…. whatever you are suppose to be?
