It dawned upon me yesterday that Valentines Day this year falls on a Saturday and that is also the first weekend of the Super 14! I know we are all lovers of rugby here and chances are high that you also have a loved one out there who is looking forward to Valentines Day. So what will it be come February 14: Time with your loved one or time infront of the TV or at the stadium watching Super Rugby? Not an easy call to make but you have to make one. Mind you, we having been waiting for soooo long to watch rugby again and the day it comes back is Valentines Day!

I for one am not a fan of Valentines Day especially being on a Saturday. It means you have to spend virtually the whole day with your partner. As opposed to if it were during the week, chances are you both at work from 9 to 5 and then you meet up for a dinner or something after that and Valentines Day is done. And during the course of that day you have probably sent her flowers and chocolates to work.

Now this year, he or she is probably arranging a whole day to spend with you. Breakfast in the morning, picnic and a walk in the afternoon then dinner in the evening. It is either that or waking up on Saturday morning and watching the Crusaders play the Chiefs in what I am sure is going to be a cracker of a game! And straight after that it is the Hurricanes versus the Waratahs. Two teams I feel can easily get into the semi’s this year. Then there is a two or three hour break after the Hurricane’s game before we switch to arguably the game of the weekend: Stormers versus Sharks. This is one not to be missed! And it does not end there, after that there is the Bull’s versus The Reds.

So for me it looks like the only time for ‘Valentines Action’ is between the Canes-Tahs match and the Stormers-Sharks. That should give you some time to do a bit of romancing. I am not too sure if your partner would be willing to be with you after the Bulls-Reds game as you probably would have knocked back a couple of beers by then having watched so much rugby!

So the choice is yours, what will it be come February 14, rugby or your partner?
