I was reading an article on Keo.co.za which was titled Boks under achieve in 2008 . Fair enough I thought, this would be an article probably talking about the poor Tri-Nations the Boks had and how they stuttered in their opening two games of the end of year tour. But then the first sentence in that article hit me! It read “The Springboks are a better team than the current All Blacks - and Saturday’s Test against the Poms at Twickenham will prove it.” How my blood started to race!

The SA Rugby Awards have come and gone but I feel that Tendai ‘Beast’ Mtawarira should have been named the Young Player of the Year. This was daylight robbery! How could they give the award to Rob Ebersohn ahead of Beast and even Ryan Kankowski? I honestly thought that Beast had this award in the bag but I am still left stumped as to why he did not win it.

Jean de Villiers has been name the best player in South Africa for 2008 winning the SA Rugby Player of the Year award. There was really no surprise there as he was head and shoulders above everyone else. Some had doubted him after his had to pull out of the World Cup last year after sustaining a bicep injury but he has come back even stronger after that injury.

Firstly, congratulations to Shane Williams for being named IRB Player of the Year for 2008 but I must say as a rugby fan that I am surprised that All Black captain, Richie McCaw was not the winner of the award but he was not even part of the shortlist of the players! The list included: Shane Williams and Ryan Jones from Wales, Scotland scrumhalf Mike Blair, Italy captain Sergio Parisse and New Zealand flyhalf Dan Carter. Now surely you can not tell me that Blair and Parisse had a better year than McCaw.

I must say I am not really surprised by this one. Wales winger Shane Williams has been named the International Rugby Board Player of the Year for 2008. He beat off competition from Wales teammate Ryan Jones, Scotland scrumhalf Mike Blair, Italy captain Sergio Parisse and New Zealand flyhalf Dan Carter. Funnily (or not) no Springbok players were up for the running. Should Jean de Villiers have been included there? Williams had a great year and for me, the highlight was the way he ran ‘inside out’ of Habana in the test earlier in the year. He made South Africa’s best winger look like a junior school boy. Congrats to Williams for the award.

I was amazed and shocked yesterday! Wow! The All Blacks took on Wales yesterday in a game the All Blacks won 27 - 9 but the highlight for me was before the game even kicked off! The All Blacks lined up and gave u a sterling Kapa o Pango. I always get goosebumps from Kapa o Pango! But then after the All Blacks had done Kapa o Pango, the Welsh team stood their ground and refused to walk away like every other team that has faced the Haka in all these years has done.

What a game! Firstly, to all those on this forum who doubted the Boks the whole of last week, I hope you are eating humble pie now! Never ever right off the Boks. Right them off at your own peril! Not only did the Springboks win but they inflected the worst defeat England has had on their own home patch. Now I do not hear the All Blacks having the honour of holding such a record.

After waiting all week to find out if certain players are fit for the game against England on Saturday, coach PDV has been dealt a blow as Fourie du Preez and Juan Smith are both ruled out of the game. Ricky Januarie will continue playing at scrumhalf, while Danie Rossouw will come in for Smith on the side of the scrum.

Some relief for the battering the Springboks have been getting on this website! All these All Black supporters have been going on and on about the depth of the All Blacks but what happened to this so called depth last night against MUNSTER! Yes, Munster, this is a club team and not even a national team! The All Blacks had to wait for a last minute try so that they could win the game 18-16! Shocking!

Finally sense has prevailed. Earlier in the year, it had been suggested that the South Africa rugby team stop using the Springbok emblem as it was part of the apartheid era and that the King Protea should replace the Springbok. Not many people were too happy about loosing the Springbok but now Saru president Oregan Hoskins and his deputy Mark Alexander, and the sports minister, the Reverend Makhenkesi Stofile met in Cape Town today and decided the the Springbok emblem can continue to be used but will now be put on the right hand side of the jursey.
